Ken Brace - Class of 2006
It's probably difficult for most people to pinpoint the single most defining factor in their lives. A married person could tell you that their spouse helped to make them who they are. A religious person could tell you that their devotion to God shaped them into the person they are. If you were to ask me, I would tell you that my time as a Fermi wrestler created the person that I am today.
I began wrestling my freshman year as a way to stay in shape for football. By the end of the winter season I knew that my future as a high school athlete involved a wrestling mat, not a football field. I was immediately attracted to the grueling practices and the extreme dedication that the sport demanded. The friends I made during my four years on the team are some of the closest that I have. For the most part, the Fermi wrestling team stuck together. It's good to know that if I ever need them, I have a group of grapplers that'll have my back. I also enjoyed the idea that my sport was more difficult than anything else that anyone I knew could possibly be doing.
I graduated with honors in 2006 as four year varsity wrestler and a Senior Captain. I am now attending Central Connecticut State University as an Elementary Eduction major. I have found that the qualities I've gained as a member of the Fermi wrestling team continue to gain importance beyond high school. Dedication, hard-work, and tenacity are the most important characteristics of any successful person. I hope to someday become a coach so that I can instill these qualities in other young wrestlers.
